When Intel pushed the Core i7 out the door it was not to top its rival, AMD, but to top its own Core 2 CPUs. We saw the i7 simply trounce on just about all other single socket systems (and some multi-socket systems as well).
The Phenom IIs in quad and three core variations are in the market for quite a while, and after months of wait AMD is ready to replace the old Athon X2 series, which latest incarnations are the 7750 and 7850.

Hitachi research and development is working on a new storage technology that is expected to increase storage density to 2.5 terabit per square inch. That’s five times the capacity of the densest hard drives of today and thus could lead towards 10 TB HDDs.
