Acer released the specs and pricing for its upcoming Predator-series flagship PC, the ASG7710-A41.

The upgrades to the gaming PC include a 3.06GHz Intel Core i7-950 CPU, which is faster than the 2.93GHz i7-940-based model currently available in the US. The new PC retains the same Intel X58 Express chipset and 1TB hard drive, but ups the ante with two NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 graphics cards with 1GB of RAM as opposed to the US model’s single GeForce GTX 260. Both share 6GB of RAM, however, with a maximum capacity for 12GB.

Otherwise there is a Blu-ray disc drive, 11 USB 2.0 ports, two eSATA ports, a multi-card reader, four DVI-D ports, and two gigabit Ethernet connections. Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit is the preloaded OS, and a G15 keyboard and G9 laser mouse is bundled with the system.

While an exact ship date is not available, the PC will cost the equivalent of $2,730. A US release is expected soon after the European launch.

The Acer Aspire One AO751h 11.6-inch netbook line has a starting manufacturers suggested retail price (MSRP) of $349.99. Several models are avaialble with an extended 6-cell battery at an MSRP starting at $379.99. The Acer Aspire One D250 10.1-inch netbook line has a starting MSRP of $298. The Acer Aspire One comes with additional preinstalled software includes Microsoft Works with Office Home and Student 2007 Trial, Microsoft Office Personal 2007, Acer eRecovery Management, Acer Launch Manager, Adobe® Reader®, McAfee® Internet Security Suite, Microsoft® Office Trial 2007.

The new Acer Aspire One models come with a standard one-year parts and labor warranty, which can be extended to three years with the Acer Advantage service. With ION raging about the ability to play 1080p video on a 10-inch screen we see what may be a much more attractive option coming out of a rumored Acer box.

The netbook in question could be called the Acer Aspire On 571 (not to be confused with 751). It features a Atom N280 (1.66GHz) and a Quantics Q1721 Multimedia Processor, this will take the burden of encoding and decoding the H.264 media content off of the CPU. The 10.1-inch display is a full 720p (which is more than enough on a 10-inch screen)

no word on pricing or when this will hit the streets but it looks promising.

the Aspire One 571 looks an awful lot like other Acer netbooks, but it’s the internals that set it apart. For starters, it’s rockin’ a 1.66GHz Atom N280 processor and a 1,280 x 720 resolution panel; sure it’s still just 10.1-inches, but hey, we’ll take 720p. Furthermore, there’s a Quartics Q1721 Multimedia Processor shoved in there — you know, so it can handle decoding and encoding of H.264 content while adding hardware scaling and filtering. Eager for more? That Vmedia comeback we heard about is on, as the left palm rest boasts one of the miniature optical drives

In a move that I would say is not unexpected Acer is looking to scale back some of its Atom based netbooks in favor of the CULV CPU bases light and thin notebooks.

This new market is going that is emerging should help to define the mobile categories a little better than they currently are.

Acer will affect this move in June cutting some models back by as much as 50%

CULV-based products seem to offer higher margins, and high inventory levels of netbooks in Europe are another reason behind the decision. Acer is currently the top netbook vendor, with a 30 percent global market share.

According to Digitimes, Acer will start reducing netbook orders in June, and orders of some models will see a drop of more than 50 percent.

Acer has recently introduced the Timeline series of CULV-based notebooks in several form factors, and they are already on sale in some Asian markets.

It looks like Acer let the cat out of the bag somehow. Today, the company revealed that Microsoft will be launching Windows 7 on October 23rd when it’s pre-installed on a nettop from Acer themselves called the Z5600.

Apparently, the new system will start shipping by the end of September, but you’ll get a free upgrade to Windows 7 if your purchase is made within 30 days of the platform’s release. Compal says they will be releasing a product before this, but it all comes before the date Microsoft officially announced.

In fact, Microsoft made a goal for themselves to have Windows 7 out by early 2010. But this new information means the platform will be ready for the highly coveted holiday season. We’ll have to see how this plays out but one thing is for certain: it’s very interesting!

Acer and NVIDIA introduced the AspireRevo, which is the first nettop based on the NVIDIA Ion platform. The Acer AspireRevo features the Intel Atom 230 1.6GHz processor, NVIDIA MCP79 chipset, up to 4GB DDR2 memory, up to 250GB HDD, 4-in-1 memory card reader, six USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet, VGA, HDMI, eSATA and Windows Vista Home Premium or Basic. Models with dual-core Intel Atom processors are expected later.

All of this comes into a tiny 1 liter enclosure that measures just 180mm x 180mm x 30mm (7.1″ x 7.1″ x 1.2″), it’s about 30x smaller than a regular PC case but still packs a lot of power. The AspireRevo is very energy efficient system for desktop PC work that can also handle 1080p HD video and modern games like Call of Duty 4, albeit not at high quality settings of course.

The price of the Acer AspireRevo is expected to be around $300, but availability is unknown.

It’s unsourced, but we’re hearing today that Acer’s first Android phone will be called the A1 and arrive in September. That’s at least the word according to the Phillipine BusinessMirror, and it lines up nicely with our peek inside Acer’s secret roadmap diary at MWC.

The touchscreen A1 will apparently launch alongside three other handsets, one of which we’re guessing is the mysterious white C1 pictured above. We’ll see how it goes — hopefully Acer’s second effort is a lot more interesting than its first round of ho-hum WinMo phones.

Whoops; the Acer Predator line of gaming PCs is well known for its blazing fast speed and high octane graphics capability. But did you know they could potentially “blaze” a hole through your desk? Well, maybe not quite, but they definitely pose a fire hazard, so says the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

So what’s the problem, exactly? It seems the insulation on some of the wiring within the computer gets stripped somehow and then leads to a short circuit. Then, the components inside melt or the exterior casing melts. Both things are most certainly not supposed to happen.

The models affected are the ASG7200 and the ASG7700 that were sold between May and December of 2008. If you purchased your Acer Predator during this time frame, contact Acer for a free repair of the problem. Only 215 units are suspected to be affected, but it’s still a hazard gamers should know about.
