Five months after the introduction of the Opteron 6200 and Opteron 4200 processors, AMD is expanding its lineup of server chips based on the Bulldozer architecture with the launch of the single-socket Opteron 3200 series CPUs.

Right now, the Opteron 3200 processor range consists of three SKUs, namely the Opteron 3250, 3260, and 3280.

The first two of these feature dual Bulldozer modules for a total of four processing cores and their clock speeds are set at 2.4GHz and 2.7GHz (2.7GHz and 3GHz maximum Turbo), respectively.

The third chip introduced by AMD today packs eight computing cores with a base clock speed of 2.5GHz and 2.8GHz maximum Turbo. Its TDP is rated at 65 Watts, while the quad-core Opteron 3200 series CPUs fit inside a 45W power envelope.

Compared to their desktop counterparts, these three Opteron processors are validated for being used inside servers and come with an improved memory controller that supports up to 32GB of dual-channel ECC RAM running at speeds of up to 1866MHz.

The Opteron 3200 series targets the dense, power efficient 1P Web hosting/Web server market.

“In today’s economic environment, dedicated hosting providers need their data centers to become profit centers faster than ever,” said Patrick Patla, corporate vice president and general manager, commercial business, AMD.

“With the new AMD Opteron 3000 Series platform, Web and Cloud customers no longer have to compromise with desktop-class platforms in order to hit certain price points.

“Now they have all the benefits of a true server-class product at desktop-class price points. This helps rapidly-growing hosting customers achieve fast payback in their incredibly dense, power-efficient environments,” concluded the company’s rep.

Pricing for the Opteron 3250, 3260, and 3280 CPUs is set at $99, $125, and $229 (75, 94.5 and 173 EUR), respectively. All the chips are shipping right now and are available in platforms from MSI, Tyan, Fujitsu and Dell.

Today, Dell officially introduced it’s new notebook called Adamo. With its 0.65 inch profile, which Dell claims to make it the world’s thinnest laptop, and weighing only 1,81 kg, it is certainly a very slim product, targeting the same customers as Apple’s MacBook Air.

Its dimensions are: 16,39 x 331 x 242mm (H x W x D). Available in two colors: black and white, Dell calls “pearl” and “onyx”, it has a 13.4-inch widescreen 16:9 HD display with edge-to-edge glass.

The basic version (1.2 GHz Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM) of the Adamo is going to be available in 24 countries, among others in the USA for 1,999 USD and in Germany for 1,899 Euros, March 26th.

Today, Dell introduced the “Studio One 19″, an All-in-One-PC, in Japan. Going on sale in late March (in Japan), it features an 18.5 inch 16:9 touchscreen display, which supports a resolution of up to 1366 x 768. Additionally, it will come equipped with a wireless keyboard and mouse.

Its customizable hardware features are going to be:

Yesterday, Dell reported that its net income for the fourth quarter, ended Jan. 30, fell 48 percent, to $351 million from $679 million reported in the fourth quarter of the prior year.

Revenue dropped 16 percent, to $13.4 billion from $16 billion. That is the lowest level in earnings for Dell since 2002. As a result, they announced to cut their annual costs by an additional $1 billion – on top of the already existing $3 billion cost-cutting program, which has included layoffs and the closing of plants, for example.

“We will be the first to admit that this is a work in progress, and there is more to do,” Brian T. Gladden, the company’s chief financial officer said. Apparently, the main reason for this decline are the decreased desktop and laptop computer sales. Currently, Dell is trying to broaden its product offerings in a “turnaround effort”. “Our strategy is to develop disruptive technology and innovation and shift our business to higher margin products and services,” Mr. Dell said.

Dell has today unveiled its greenest monitor display with the launch of the G2410, a 24-inch white LED Full HD LCD with EPEAT Gold rating and many power saving promises to deliver great images at 60% less power consumption.

The display features 250 nits of brightness, 5ms panel response time and provides 1000:1 of contrast with ability to extend up to a whooping 1 million:1 dynamic contrast ratio. Panel is TN type with 16.7 million colors and 160/170 viewing angles rating. It’s unfortunately not a better e-IPS panel type we would like to see.

But this model is more about the eco-friendly features: The display advertises less environmental impact outfit from recycled materials, packaging to an Arsenic-free glass and mercury-free LED backlight; Additionally, it also packs many advance power-saving functions from Ambient Light Sensor, PowerNap and Dynamic Dimming to help cutting down your power bill. But no worries there, you hardcore gamers! To operate the display at full power, all the features above can be easily turned off.

The tree-hugger Dell monitor is up at company’s online store now at $349.

Dell has announced that its newest 30-inch screen is now shipping called the UltraSharp U3011. The screen has a resolution of 2560 x 1600 and a contrast ratio of 1000:1 and up to 100,000:1 dynamic.

The panel has a response time of 7ms that will prevent ghosting and other issues in fast motion video or video games. The screen has a brightness rating of 370cd/m2. The viewing angles are 178-degrees horizontally and vertically. The screen can reproduce 1.07 billion colors.

The pixel dot pitch is 0.251 and it comes with a stand that tilts, swivels, and is height adjustable. The screen has lots of connectivity with a VGA port, dual DVI-D with HDCP, and dual HDMI inputs. The screen can be ordered now for $1499.

Alienware had originally planned to unveil its new “all powerful” notebook at the launch of Computex however it seems that they have jumped the gun just a little.

The new notebook is dubbed the M17x, taking its name from last year’s M17. The base model starts with the GeForce 9400M IGP and GTX 260M, utilizing NVIDIA’s Hybrid Power to save on the battery. It will also come with a 250GB HDD, a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 processor, 4GB of RAM, and a nine-cell battery.

While the base model will set you back $1,799, there will be a number of options to crank the price up and suit your mobile needs. These will include a 512GB SSD, GTX 280M’s in SLI, up to 8GB of memory, and a 1920×1200 LCD. You can even throw in a quad-core Intel Core 2 Extreme processor, but sadly there is no Core i7 available.

Now this is ‘cool’. Heh .. awful pun. The Dell XPS 625 and XPS 630 have just gotten a liquid cooling option added to their specs in place of the standard fan-cooling option.

The Asetek liquid cooling system provides for a more even cooling of the processor and makes overclocking a much more versatile possibility for users that really want to get the most out of their systems.

This cooling option also reduces the noise, as there’s no loud fan noise to contend with. Since both of these computers include the Intel Core 2 Extreme and are unlocked, making speed boosts much easier, having a stronger cooling option just makes sense.

To add the Asetek liquid cooling option, it will cost you nearly $120 extra on top of the $899 and $1,099 priced XPS 625 and XPS 630 gaming towers. The new option will be available by the end of the month.

The so far black-only Studio XPS laptop might soon be getting an injection of color. A “Bordeaux” (red) version of the portable was spotted at Dell’s design labs, and the company told CNET an official release is currently under consideration.
