Gigabyte technology already had this marketed on their motherboards, but now available on their graphics cards is their Ultra Durable VGA (UDV) concept.

Graphics cards based on this technology will feature 2 oz copper PCB boards, Samsung/Hynix memory, Japanese solid caps, Ferrite Core Chokes, and Low RDS (on) MOSFET. Gigabyte promises UDV will lower temperatures, cut power consumption and boost overclocking performance.

I do not know what to make of these green edition graphics cards. Seems more like a niche marketing plot than anything else to be honest.

The 9600 GT Green Edition cards are based off a 55nm G94 graphics core, and of course have reduced clock speeds, to result to a better energy-efficiency. Gigabyte is readying its first accelerator based on this core, the GV-N96TSL-1GI.

The cooler used on the card will be referred to as “Silent Cell”, and consists of a central GPU contact block from which heatpipes emerge, conveying heat to an aluminum fin array that spans across the full length of the card. Gigabyte mounts 1 GB of GDDR3 across a 256-bit wide bus on the PCB. Well, I;m sure we’ll stub,le into them at CeBIT on display.

I’m just trying to figure out what the heck passive cooling has to do with a card being ‘green’.

Gigabyte will release a GeForce GTS 250 based on Zalman cooling. The product under SKU codename GV-N250ZL-1GI
uses the company’s own design.

Certainly the GeForce GTS 250 is a re-spin product of the NVIDIA’s 9800 GTX+ accelerator based on the same 55nm G92b core and similar specifications.

Gigabyte’s first accelerator sports the Ultra Durable PCB construction. The PCB consists of 2 oz (56.6 g) copper layers that help spread heat and minimize ground electrical noise. It also consists of the all solid-capacitor, ferrite choke, low effective RDS on MOSFETs design.

The daunting feature of this card is its cooler: a Zalman VF1050. Heat is drawn from the GPU-contact block using four heatpipes that convey it to a dense array of copper fins, nucleated by a PWM-controlled fan. The clock speeds on this card remain close to the reference speeds: 740/1850/2000 MHz (core/shader/memory). We expect it to be in the stores around the 10th of MArch, and we’ll probably review this unit.

Gigabyte introduces a more powerful addition to its Super Overclock Series: GTX 470 SOC (GV-N470SO-13I). The GV-N470SO-13I also features WINDFORCE 3X, a 14 phase PWM design, OC Guru graphic card smart tuner and voltage read point.

The card comes at default with a 700 MHz core clock, a Shader Clock 1400 MHz and a Memory Clock of 3348 MHz (effective).

WINDFORCE 3X features 3 ultra quiet PWM fans. The special inclined triple-fan design effectively minimizes the flow of turbulence between three fans. With a unique vapor chamber, WINDFORCE 3X is able to transfer heat from the hot spot to the cool spot as thermal energy becomes evaporated to the surrounding air. By capillary action, the condensed liquid droplets circulate back to the base of chamber. The cycles of evaporation and condensation enhance heat dissipation for greater cooling efficiency. Moreover, WINDFORCE 3X is equipped with three copper heat pipes to strengthen the speed of heat dissipation.

GV-N470SO-13I has incredibly pure power. It is compatible with ATX standard length PCB. 14 phase PWM design includes 12 for GPU, 2 for memory. Standard GTX 470 graphics card has five power phases whereas GIGABYTE’s GTX 470 SOC has 12, two times the reference card. Not only does GV-N470SO-13I have three times power phases than reference card, the 12 power phase status LED indicators indicate graphics card’s current power phase, helping users monitor power consumption. This feature ensures a more stable system and better overclocking capability.

Thanks to Ultra Durable VGA+ that features 5+1 quality components, the Super Overclock Series supports top performance in graphics benchmarking. Looks like AGP is not going to go away after all. GIGABYTE is making a AGP flavor of the HD 4650 for all of those people that have not moved to last year’s technology.

Gigabyte has prepared the GV-R465D2-1GI, a Radeon HD 4650 that makes use of the ex-trusty and definitely old AGP port. Seen below, the card features quite a big cooler, 320 Stream Processors, a 128-bit memory interface, 1GB of memory, and D-Sub, DVI, HDMI outputs.

The GV-R465D2-1GI’s clocks are not mentioned but they may be the ‘default’ 600 MHz for the GPU and 800 MHz for the memory.

I know we mentioned this earlier on already. Some of Gigabyte’s X58 motherboards did not carry SLI support. Gigabyte (as far as we know) made that call for some boards a while ago as for each SLI X58 motherboard a 5 USD license fee needs to be paid to NVIDIA.
