The prices for Chipzilla’s latest line of solid-state drives the SSD 710 series, which are replacing the X25-E SSD series have been leaked.

The new SSDs, which should be around in a couple of weeks, slash the cost-per-gigabyte by 40-odd percent over the X25-E. The 100GB version will cost around $650, the 200GB model will cost roughly $1,250, and the 300GB flavor will be priced at approximately $1,900. It looks like Intel is targeting them towards the enterprise users, rather than the consumer market.

Intel will find, at that price, it has stiff competition. The SSD 710 lineup offers 270Mbps sustained read speeds and 210Mbps sustained write speeds, but many consumer SSDs can do better than that for the same price.

In terms of affordability, solid state drives still have quite some ways to go before they can actually be considered as viable replacements for most consumers. That being true, Super Talent is still doing its best to narrow the gap with the lower-priced UltraDrive families.

Both the ME and the LE crews began shipping today, with the former arriving in 32GB, 64GB, 128GB and 256GB flavors and the latter in 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB capacities. The LE lot rolls a touch faster at 230MB/sec (maximum read) and 170MB/sec (maximum write), while the ME editions are rated at 200MB/sec write and 160MB/sec read. There’s no mention of the LE prices, but the UltraDrive ME drives can be snapped up now for $128 (32GB), $205 (64GB), $379 (128GB) and $645 (256GB) from NewEgg.

Power Quotient International (PQI) released its latest USB flash-drive, the CoolDrive U368. Among a small, growing group, the U368 is USB 3.0 SuperSpeed compliant, and offers transfer-rates on par with hard drives, with access times comparable to those of SSDs.

Its casing is typically-shaped, measuring 90.1 x 22 x 11.1 mm, and weighing 25 g. When connected using USB 3.0, the drive offers transfer speeds of around 105 MB/s, which can be improved with the bundled TurboFlash USB software. It is available in capacities ranging from 8 GB, all the way up to 128 GB. It is backwards-compatible with USB 2.0, albeit with lower transfer-rates. Pricing and availability are yet to be known.
