ADATA released the S596 Turbo. This SSD comes with the new JMicron JMF616 controller which packs 128MB DDR2 cache. The results should be a stutter free SSD with read speeds of up to 260MB/s and write speeds of up to 210MB/s.

ADATA Technology Co., Ltd., the worldwide leader in DRAM memory and Flash application products, today introduced S596 Turbo, the first Solid State Drive (SSD) using JMicron JMF616 controller on earth. Not only has the speed of S596 promoted, the stability has also strengthened. The ADATA S596 Turbo leads the SSD industry into a whole new era.

Flexible Dual Interface
In terms of the interface, the ADATA S596 Turbo equips SATA II and mini-USB dual interface, providing greater convenience and flexibility. The SSD can be used either as an external portable storage, or as an installed disk in laptop. Furthermore, with a 3.5″ converter, the S596 Turbo can be installed in desktop PC. The brushed aluminum chassis of the S596 Turbo is designed for fast heat dissipation, while bringing impressive elegant demeanor.

JMicron JMF616, the Next-generation Controller Chip
In addition to the DDR2 128M cache buffer, the S596 Turbo utilizes next-generation controller, providing read speed up to 260MB per second, while write speed up to 210MB/S, which is 20 % higher than its former model S596. The firmware supports Windows 7 TRIM command, which significantly shortens the boot-up time. In addition, because of the new controller, the stability of S596 Turbo is largely raised, ridding users of sudden standstill during data transmission. The S596 Turbo supports Static wear-leveling technology, which extends the SSD’s life. The S596 Turbo satisfies different needs with 32G / 64G / 128G / 256G storage capacity.

Users of ADATA SSDs are able to download Norton Internet Security 2010 (60-day trial) for free and experience enhanced mobility and security with just few mouse clicks away. All ADATA SDDs are backed by 3-year product warranty.

Corsair presents three new Force series solid state disks, with a capacity of 60GB, 120GB and 240GB. These disks promise read speeds of up to 285MB/s, write speeds of up to 275MB/s and random 4K write performance of up to 15,000 IOPS (for the F60 and F120).

Corsair®, a worldwide designer and supplier of high-performance components to the PC gaming hardware market, today announced three additions to its ultra high-speed Force Series™ SSDs. The additions to this product family include the F60, F120, and F240 Force Series SSDs, sporting densities of 60GB, 120GB, and 240GB respectively.

All Corsair Force Series SSDs are built using the Sandforce SF-1200 SSD Processors, which provide unparalleled write endurance, superior ECC data protection, and outstanding performance. Corsair engineers worked closely with Sandforce to implement and qualify firmware which guarantees the unusually fast 4K random write performance of 180 MB/s, measured using the ATTO benchmark. This elevated 4K write speed generates 15K IOPs, resulting in excellent system performance and responsiveness. All Force Series SSDs implement the ATA TRIM command, supported by Windows® 7, which helps to maintain optimal performance over the drive’s lifetime.

The F60, F120, and F240 Force Series SSDs all support the maximum throughput specification of 285MB/s read and 275MB/s write. With no drop-off in performance when moving down to 60GB, the F60 is an ideal boot drive for a performance system, especially when combined with traditional spinning media for mass storage.

“We have had excellent feedback on our Force Series F100 and F200 from both reviewers and customers, and we are excited about expanding our Sandforce-based offerings,” stated Jim Carlton, VP of Marketing at Corsair. “These solid-state drives are an excellent option for any enthusiast looking to build their system using the best storage system performance that is currently available.”

Patriot introduced the Zephyr, a new solid state disk series designed around the JMicron JM612 SSD controller. The disks are available in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB capacities, and feature 64MB DDR2, TRIM and a max read speed of up to 240MB/s. The write speed depends on the model; it’s 85MB/s (64GB), 145MB/s (128GB) or 180MB/s (256GB). Pricing is unknown, but the company promises aggressive pricing.

Patriot Memory, a global pioneer in high-performance memory, NAND flash and computer technology, today announced the addition of the Zephyr series to its family of solid-state-drives (SSDs). The Zephyr series of SSD offer improved system responsiveness with quicker boot times and shorter application loading times over traditional hard disk drive storage solutions.

Patriot’s Zephyr series, available in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB capacities, is designed around the latest generation controller from JMicron: JMF612. With a controller level cache of 64MB DDR2, the Zephyr series provide stutter-free performance and offer speeds of up to 240MB/s Read and 180MB/s Write. To maintain performance integrity over the life of the drive, the Zephyr series SSDs include native support for the TRIM command in Microsoft Windows® 7.

“As solid-state drive technology advances, it is becoming more affordable, allowing SSD solutions to reach an increasing segment of end users. Patriot’s objective is to offer the latest technology in our solutions which provide the best performance and price options”, states Les Henry, Vice President of Engineering at Patriot. “Our Zephyr family of SSDs offer great performance, aggressive pricing and the inherent benefit of SSD technology over antiquated hard disk drives: quicker boot times and shorter application loading times. Including a Zephyr SSD in your desktop or notebook upgrade plans provides one of the best bang-for-the buck improvements you can make to your system.”

The Zephyr family of SSDs are durable and reliable, with an aluminum housing to minimize typical wear and tear and with NAND memory at their core, there are no moving parts to fail, or be damaged from daily use in portable computing solutions. Additionally, the Zephyr family of SSDs provide incredible performance, reliability and a 3-year warranty.

OCZ unveiled the Vertex 2 and Agility 2 SATA II 2.5″ Solid State Drive (SSD) Series. These are new enthusiast-class SSDs designed for consumers who are seeking unprecedented speed and reliability with the goal of enhancing both their daily computing experience and long-term productivity.

“OCZ’s original Vertex Series of solid state drives have become a top seller due to the product’s exceptional performance and reliability,” said Ryan Petersen, CEO of OCZ Technology Group. “The new Vertex 2 and Agility 2 SSD lines continue that tradition by incorporating the latest controller and firmware technology. They are an excellent solution for customers who are looking for improved transfer rates and best-in-class input/output per second (IOPS) for a wide range of uses, ranging from entertainment to workstation and tier 2 storage applications. Additionally, this new product line highlights our continuing determination to be the market leader in the high reliability memory and flash-based storage market.”

Building on the features that distinguished their highly acclaimed predecessors, the Vertex 2 and Agility 2 incorporate a cutting-edge new controller design that delivers superior performance across the board. As the higher-end option, the Vertex 2 excels in 4KB random writes up to 50,000 IOPS and features transfer rates up to 285MB/s read and 275MB/s write. For the value-conscious enthusiast, Agility 2 provides similar performance at a lower price point and delivers identical read/write rates and 4KB random writes up to 10,000 IOPS.

OCZ Vertex 2 and Agility 2 SSDs not only provide a faster, more responsive PC experience, but also promote cooler, quieter and more energy-efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives. Built with SATA 3Gb/s, the drives easily integrate into today’s mobile and desktop platforms and feature TRIM support for Windows 7 systems. Available in 50GB, 100GB, 200GB, and 400GB capacities*, Vertex 2 and Agility 2 will begin shipping in the next few weeks through OCZ’s extensive global channel. Both series come backed by a three-year warranty and OCZ’s dedicated technical support for ultimate peace of mind.

Upto this point RAID setups did not have support for the TRIM command features in the Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 7 and Linux 2.6.33+ operating systems.

This made solid state drives rather unsuited for long-term configuration in any RAID setup. Seeing this as a serious limitation, Intel wrote a driver that is able to activate this function even in RAID, obviously the drives themselves need to support it.

This technology provides support for the following features:

* Intel® Rapid Recover Technology
This technology provides full data redundancy by copying data from a designated source drive (i.e., master disk) to a designated destination drive (i.e., recovery disk). Data updates of recovery volumes can be continuous or on request.

* Intel® Rapid RAID
This technology provides the ability to create RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, and RAID 10 volumes on desktop and mobile platforms. Data is distributed across two or more disks to provide data redundancy or to enhance data storage performance.

* Intel® Matrix RAID Technology
This technology allows two independent RAID volumes to be created on a single array. The first volume occupies part of the array, leaving space for the second volume. The array may consist of two to six SATA disks depending on the volume types.

* Volume migration
This feature provides support for converting system data into a high-performance or protection RAID configuration.

* Volume size increase
This feature allows you to increase the data storage capacity of a volume by utilizing 100% of the available array space or by adding one or more SATA disk to an existing volume.
Our application also provides support for the following features: Password-protected disks

This feature provides high-level security and protection for the data on your disks with a password, denying access from any unauthorized user.

* Trim (Microsoft Windows 7* only)

This feature provides support for solid state disks (SSDs) that meet the ATA-8 protocol requirements. This feature optimizes write operations, helps devices reduce wear, and maintains unused storage area on devices as large as possible.

Garbage data from file deletions clutters on the drive. This problem was solved with the invention of the TRIM

The Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver (RAID) for Intel Desktop Boards has already been made available for public download from the official website. Of course, end-users will have to actually be running one of the three aforementioned operating systems if they expect the software to work.

Kingston introduced the new SSDNow V “Value” series of solid state disk with support for the TRIM command. Performance depends on the model, the 128GB version is the fastest one with read speeds of up to 200MB/s and write speeds of up to 160MB/s. The disks are sold as stand-alone, or in special notebook or desktop bundles. The stand-alone 30GB, 64GB and 128GB SSDs will be available for around $110, $208 and $362, respectively.

Kingston Digital, Inc., the Flash memory affiliate of Kingston Technology Company, Inc., the independent world leader in memory products, today announced it will ship its second generation SSDNow V Series solid-state drive (SSD) on February 15. Targeted for mainstream consumers and small and medium businesses, the new Kingston® SSDNow V Series offers higher performance than its predecessor and supports Windows® 7 TRIM functionality while maintaining pricing. Capacities are 30GB, 64GB and 128GB and the drive comes as a standalone unit or with a bundled solution for desktop or notebook systems.

“Kingston has really increased the performance on the new second generation SSDNow V Series drive without raising the price. A first-generation SSDNow V Series 64GB bundle upgrade kit can be found for about $150 (U.S.) at retailers and e-tailers so maintaining pricing will be huge for our customers,” said Ariel Perez, SSD business manager, Kingston. “By bundling together all of the software, hardware and step-by-step instructions with the drive, we make it easy for everyday users to upgrade with an SSD. The addition of TRIM support is a key benefit because it enables the SSD to maintain optimal performance throughout its lifespan.”

Kingston’s SSDNow V Series upgrade bundles are the simplest, most efficient upgrade path to inject new life and performance into an existing desktop or notebook PC. There is no need to reload the operating system or do anything that would alter critical data files. The included cloning software makes it simple to move the contents of the existing hard-disk drive (HDD) to the SSD.

The SSDNow V Series upgrade bundle kits include:

* Kingston SSDNow V Series solid-state drive
* Acronis® True Image cloning software and CD installation guide
* 3.5″ mounting brackets and hardware (desktop bundle only)
* SATA data and power cable extenders (desktop bundle only)
* 2.5″ USB SATA external enclosure (notebook bundle only)

The Kingston SSDNow V Series and bundle are backed by a three-year warranty, 24/7 tech support and legendary Kingston reliability.

Vertex SSD Firmware, v1.4, has now been released. It is well known that overtime the NAND flash memory in traditional solid state drives is effected by data fragmentation which causes the drives to slow down noticeably.

While competing drives still suffer from performance degradation, OCZ’s exclusive SSD firmware helps keep performance at peak levels without any further maintenance from consumers. The background optimizer runs during idle-time to restore the SSD to its original performance, providing peace of mind for the entire life of the drive.

In addition, these drives will fully support TRIM with the impending Microsoft Windows 7 release, making OCZ SSDs a future-proof investment.

Please note: this new firmware is not for the Vertex Turbo. More info here.

The new Extreme Series X256 drive offers sequential read speed up to 240MB/s and sequential write speed up to 170MB/s. The drive is equipped with an Indilinx Barefoot controller and uses Samsung multi-level cell NAND flash memory along with 64MB of on-board cache to eliminate any stutter issues.

Corsair already offers 32-, 64- and 128GB models in the Extreme series and all of the models come with upgradable firmware that will enable end-users to add new features such as the TRIM function when it becomes available in Windows 7 which will help users avoid the performance degradation that have plagued some drives over time.

Corsair stated the drives are available now from its resellers with no official word on price, although several online retailers are currently offering the drives in the $670-$680US range.
